When the Meeting is Off in More Ways Than One!

Last Thursday morning disaster struck at our house – the hot water system blew up! I found this out whilst standing stark naked in our shower at 7am waiting for the water to get hot. It did not get hot ………. loads of growling from me! I threw on some clothes and quickly rang the plumber hoping he could sort things out that day. He couldn’t. He said the earliest he could come was Saturday morning! More  growling………

I decided that since I work from home that it was okay to go without washing because I probably wouldn’t see anyone and didn’t have to go out………..or did I? Suddenly I remembered that I had my usual monthly accounts meeting with a client (who I normally visit in person since he lives near me) scheduled for Friday! Shock! Horror! I concluded that without a shower for the second day running, by Friday I would be, well there’s no other way to say it, a stinker! There was no way I was going out in public, much less going to a client’s house looking and smelling crappy! On the other hand, I didn’t want to cancel the meeting because there was some important stuff we needed to discuss. What to do? What to do? I know, Easy! Use Go To Meeting of course……..hooray problem solved! Phew!

I recently started using Go To Meeting for meetings with our interstate or long distance clients. Go To Meeting allows us to “meet” online with our clients no matter where they are – interstate, overseas, on a train, whatever! I hadn’t thought of using it for our local clients because I normally jump in the car and visit in person. Not this time! No way sunny Jim! I rang my client and explained the situation and although he thought my story was hilarious (I didn’t…), he was more than happy to try out Go To Meeting.

I scheduled the meeting and sent my client an email invitation to join the meeting. This invitation included a link that my client had to click on which took him to the meeting. Once he had joined the meeting, I shared my video link (web cam) with him and he shared his with me so that meant we could see each other as if we were in the same room….. but without the BO! Very cool and much easier on the nose! I could also share my computer screen with him so I was able to “show” him some reports I had been working on; we also looked at his accounting software together which was great because I wanted to show him how to  edit some transactions he had been entering recently. Not only were we collaborating in real time and sharing documents and software as if we were actually together, I could also record the meeting. This allowed me to review the meeting once it had finished, make notes and send my client a detailed report about our discussions – nothing was forgotten!

Go To Meeting certainly saved my bacon last Friday (come to think of it, that’s what I smelt like lol!). If I could not have met online with my client, the meeting would have been cancelled and would have be rescheduled. Not usually a problem but it was important that we meet that day and sort out a few pertinent issues. Go To Meeting allowed us to do that – business as usual! Go To Meeting brings everyone together no matter where they are………and in my case, no matter how they smell! Give it a try; there’s a 30 day trial period before payment begins. I think you’ll really like it.

PS… New hot water system is in and is fantastic! I’m a sweet-smelling BAS Agent now! Thank heavens!
